Pesach 2021

Leaning on my overflowing wagon, I escape the supermarket busting in its full glory of bounty and people streaming up and down the aisle like balls in a pinball machine. “You waitin’ for someone?”, the checkout guy asks. Grinning, I say “well- actually yes.” The great DAWN is not a figment of our imagination but a living dream. OF COURSE I’M WAITING FOR SOMEONE! DUH! After scrubbing, scouring, sweeping, running up and down the stairs with bags to go and bags to unpack, making order till my entire body hurts, this is the part that has me visualizing him as he arrives in a chariot of fire. YOU BET  I’m waiting for someone! Back home, my doorpost faces Gilead. First, I polish his cup. I raise a garden bed near the Hill of Pinchas at Gabatha near ITAMAR and ELAZAR, the place he is sure to land first…  Elijahu! when will your wheels burn BAAL in its stench? Pour your wrath. You know your way back to Eden. “Hashem is Elokim” you need to shout it now! The entire world has been stuck for a full year, locked into their homes, mouths latched, faces bolted, bodies confined. Now the womb opens. It is time to release us. The doorpost widens, the brit awaits; we are ready for the way. We are dressed, belted and wearing boots. Elijahu- arise from your chair! We have risen from this lowly state, our dough is burnt, the time is spent. Where is your whirlwind! We will grow in this journey; we will finally reclaim our voice. Peh-Sach. Tonight we tell. Tonight we lean into freedom.

We have poured four cups:1: והוצאתי- I took you out והיצלתי2 :- I saved youוגאלתי3: — I redeemed you-ולקחתי :4- I took you. We have shaken off the dust. Were ready to shake out the welcome mat as earth will be shaken like a rug and wind will shake barley, fake BAALS quiver. Let’s open the window now into the blackness. It is now חצי הלילה. “Therefore say to Bnei Yisrael – I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgement. I will take you as my own people and I will be your G-d. Then you will know that I am the Lord your G-d who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians and I will bring you to the Land I swore with an uplifted hand to give Avraham Isaac and Jacob. I will give it to you for a possession. I am the Lord!”

Here’s the thing, Elijahu- Why is this night different from other nights? Seeing that I have poured the fifth cup! “והבאתי!”- I brought you! YES! You brought me; yes, you will drink now. We foretold for thousands of years. Now we tell. Our family, a conglomeration of the four corners of the world – returned! Dawn approaches now. The golden light glimmers off Gilead. OPEN THE DOOR! Cherubs wings swoop up as your wheels of fire bring us home. I lean on your chariot now, I sit in your chair; the dust has settled! LeChayim! This year in Jerusalem!

“Now I am sending to you Elijah the prophet, before the day of the Lord comes, the great and terrible day. He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their sons, and the hearts of the sons to their fathers.”

Chag Kasher veSameyach – Happy Passover to all our dear dear friends, Leah
