Itamar News Updates August 14th 2015
It is hard to believe but we will be celebrating the coming new month of Elul this Shabbat and Sunday. The month of Elul marks our preparation for the coming New Year which will take place early this year on September 14th and 15th. It is customary to not only to get up early to say special prayers but to enhance the Mitzvah of giving of charity and Torah study. We want to enter the Day of Judgement with as much merit as we can – as every one of us will stand before Hashem and will have to give an accounting of his deeds over the past year.
Unfortunately, this past week some local villagers entered one of the farms on our hilltops and made off with important water system equipment worth over 2000 dollars. We have stressed many times over the need to stand with our farmers. They are literally holding on to the land with their bare hands. Let us stand with them and show them our support!
Itamar welcomed the visit of our dear Friend Alan Nussbaum who visited with us this week. Alan is a longtime friend of Itamar who is always looking to get people involved in helping the community. Alan loves more than anything to show his appreciation to Israeli soldiers by buying cold drinks and fresh baked goods and distributing to them at their different posts.
As part of our summer program here we have the children doing various community tasks like cleaning up our spring and picnic areas and putting mail in our postboxes. Giving back to the community is an important facet of our ideals. Enjoy the pictures!
